Lawrence Dean Justice




WEAVERVILLE – Lawrence Dean Justice, age 82, of Weaverville died Wednesday, January 18, 2017.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Justice was born May 31, 1934 to the late Vernie and Bessie Bradley Justice. Dean was a charter member of Reems Creek Fire Department, where he had formerly served as Chief for a number of years. He retired from J.M. Hearn & Company after 55 years as a master locksmith. He was a member of South Fork Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, and on the board of directors and most recently as the treasurer. Dean loved Shindig on the Green, bluegrass music, and sports, including the Washington Red Skins, Atlanta Braves, and the UNC Tarheels. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Griffin Justice who died in 2009.

Surviving are his sons, Jeff Justice and wife Beth, Larry Justice and wife Wendy; sister, Barbara Buckner; brothers, Zane Justice and wife Peggy, and Glen Justice; all of Weaverville; grandchildren, Lindsay Allen and husband Matt, Leslie Huff and husband Nathan, Levi Justice, Hannah Justice; great grandchild, Madison Dean Allen, and a great grandson on the way.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverends David Jones and Don House officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

At other times, the family will be at his home daily from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. or at either of his son’s homes, Larry’s on Maney Branch, or Jeff’s on Ox Creek.
