Professor Barbee was a class act. His calming demeanor was the best. His instruction in linear algebra at Elon was superb. My life is richer for having known him.

Bill was a beloved colleague for 14 years at Elon before his retirement; during my first few years of teaching full-time he was a generous and enthusiastic mentor. I am so sorry that he is gone and so grateful for the life that he led.
