WEAVERVILLE – William “Bill” Hart Higgins, age 80, died Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home in Weaverville.
A native of Connecticut, he retired last year to enjoy the mountains and his grandchildren. He lived a full and generous life, teaching high school English, then many years working as a psychologist and as a college psychology professor. He spent innumerable hours coaching baseball and soccer bringing joy to so many young people who still remember him fondly. He loved books, golf, baseball (unfortunately the Mets), weightlifting, jogging, playing his guitar, working in his gardens and middle school humor - but most especially his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Joseph Higgins and Ruth Hart Higgins; beloved brother, Frank Higgins.
Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Alice; by his children, Killian and husband Sean, Bill and wife Tanya and Erin and by his grandchildren, Gabriel, Eli and Quinn.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 5, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave. Weaverville.
For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Dr. Higgins’ obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.

Dear Alice, Erin and Bill,
We started missing Bill when he moved down to NC, but knew he would love being there. Bob and I are very sorry for your deep loss, but hope you can take comfort in the fact that he was surrounded by your love always and to the very end. We love and miss you all.
