MARY JO “JODI” RICE
WEAVERVILLE – Mary Jo “Jodi” Rice, age 73, of Weaverville passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Jodi was born April 11, 1943 in Jefferson County, KY to the late James T. Hill, Jr. and Bessie Ball Hill. She had been a resident of Weaverville since 1969 when she was honorably discharged from the US Army. Jodi worked as a nurse for many years both in the hospital and nursing homes. She was co-owner of R & R Wrecker Service, loved spending time at the lake, riding the Blue Ridge Parkway, and being with her family.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Butch Rice; daughters, Sherri Angel and husband Jeff of Woodfin, Deborah Martin and fiancé James Dawson of Troy, VA; sons, Paul Martin, Jr. and Jenifer of Hood, VA, Ernie Rice of Marion; sisters, Lydia Clark and husband John of Marshall, Kathy Knapp of Asheville; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Clark Henderson officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
A special "thank you" to sister-in-law, Carolyn Rice and the staff on 6 North, at the St. Joseph campus.
At other times, the family will be at the residence.

Mama Jodi was the most wonderful woman we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. She called us family and loved unconditionally. She was always there with her sweet smile and sassy attitude. We will miss her more than words can express.
