Obituary

WEAVERVILLE– Eric Dave Emory, age 78, of Weaverville, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 after a brief illness.

Mr. Emory was born May 1, 1939 in Stocksville, NC and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a graduate of North Buncombe High School and Berea College. Eric retired from the Buncombe County Health Department in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was a hard worker his entire life, building houses, farming tobacco, making molasses with his brothers, built beautiful stone walls and chimneys, and raised a productive garden for many years. He was a longtime member of the North Buncombe Optimist Club, co-owned a drive-in restaurant in Woodfin for a time, and enjoyed birdwatching in his yard. He enjoyed genealogy and civil war history, publishing books on both, as well as taking a major role in establishing the Buncombe County Civil War Memorial located behind the Smith-McDowell House Museum in Asheville. Preceding him in death are his parents, Jeff and Essie Myers Emory; brothers, Clarence, Jerry and L.J. Emory; sisters, Magdalene Emory, Dorothy Brown, Willie Mae Hawkins and Mildred Metcalf.

Surviving are his daughters, Erika Emory, and Evonna Myers and husband Joe; grandsons, Eric J. and Alex Myers; sister, Juanita Hill and husband Preston; brother, Reverend Worth Emory and wife Marie; very special nephew, Ronnie Lovin and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverend Worth Emory officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, NC 28787.
