Celebrating the life of Claire Bowers Rector
Thank you for signing Claire Bowers Rector 's Guestbook
Mrs. Rector was not only my Home Economics teacher at North Buncombe High School, but my Sunday School teacher for years at First Baptist Church of Weaverville. This wonderful lady taught me how to sew a skirt together and win a blue ribbon, and that was an accomplishment of it's own. However, she shared much more with me through God's word. Sometimes, even though I didn't want to, I would go with her to pick up other school kids in the nearby neighborhood and bring them to church. Deep down inside, she knew I needed to step out of my box and she was right. She was always thinking of others, whether it was just a word of encouragement or thinking of their salvation. Although I will miss seeing her face around Weaverville, I know that our savior will enjoy her more. It was an honor to be a part of her life for the short time she was here.

Mama Rector was a sweet and patient teacher. I can’t imagine teaching someone to sew but she did for hundreds! I will always remember her strong southern accent and thoughtfulness.

I had the privilege of having this wonderful lady as a home economics teacher for 4 years at North Buncombe. I was honored to be president of FHA under her direction my senior year. She was so patient and kind as she taught the girls the art of sewing. Even after graduation, I would still see her in the grocery store and she would stop to chat. She will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. May God bless you.

So saddened to hear about Mrs. Rectors passing. She touched my life many years, as I was honored to be one of her students in her Home Economics class (four years) from my freshman year through my senior year at North Buncombe High School. She was very patient as she taught me and others all about sewing and cooking. I must say, she was one of my all-time favorite teachers during those years and I will cherish the fond memories that we had. May she rest in peace, as she is now in heaven with her loving husband. My prayers are with the family during this difficult time.

Mrs. Rector taught home economics to both me and my older sister. She was a true role model for all girls, and was a second mother to a lot. I learned how to read a recipe and sew my first stitch from her. She loved "her girls" no matter what and showed tough love along with much caring and compassion. She has touched so many lives and will be greatly missed. Sharon Robinson, class of 1969 North Buncombe High School.

We were reading a story in class about Marmalade and a lot of us had no clue what it was. You bought us some the next day with crackers. When there were words we had never seen or heard before you would not just describe the word you would show us a picture to help us get a better understanding. She was a sweet lady and a wonderful teacher.
