ASHEVILLE - Agnes Theresa Eargle passed away peacefully on July 23, 2018 at the John F. Keever Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Theresa was born in Newberry County, South Carolina to James H. Eargle and Agnes Eargle, who both preceded her in death as did her seven older siblings. She graduated from Newberry High School and Berry College. She also studied at Erskine College and Furman University and was a continual learner throughout her life. Most recently, she tirelessly helped to oversee her beloved sister Esther Eargle Hayes’ Estate Educational Trust fund to help family members further their education. They both always believed in the importance of higher education and wanted to provide financial educational support to the Eargle family descendants so they could succeed and contribute to society as a whole. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia and New York City. She resided this past year in Asheville, NC to be closer to family and the NC mountains that she always loved due to its solace and sanctuary. Theresa worked in the publishing industry for many years and published a book about her parents and family history titled, Country Folk, The Story of a Dutch Fork Marriage. She was an animal protection advocate and an avid reader with a large collection of well-worn books that she read time and again. She loved great artwork, listening to NPR on the radio, time with her family, and providing her cats with affection. She always had inspiring and interesting stories to share with those fortunate enough to be in her presence.
She is survived by many family members over three generations long who will continue the Eargle family legacy. She will be truly missed.
There will be a sharing of memories for family and friends on Saturday, July 28th from 2:00-4:00 pm at the West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave Weaverville, NC 28787.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to her favorite charity, The Farm Sanctuary, PO Box 150, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
