ASHEVILLE - Alberta Coker Deckard, age 63 of Asheville died Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Mrs. Deckard was a daughter to Louis Edward Coker, Sr. and Dorothy Goodwin Coker of Alexander. She was born October 30, 1951 in Knox County, TN and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. Alberta had a beautiful soprano voice. She was an abstract artist using gel pen as her medium. Many lives were touched as she helped feed the homeless and minister to many groups. She loved animals, especially her two dogs Migilla and Ursula. Alberta was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband Gene Deckard; daughter, Krystal Ray Fender of Weaverville; son, Steve Ray, Jr. and wife Sandy Wilson Ray of Candler; sisters, Mary Coker Banks and husband Douglas of Loganville, GA, Beverly Coker Fort and husband Tom of Grayson, GA, Gwen Coker Green of Loganville, GA; brothers, Louis Coker Jr. "Buster" and wife Angie of Alexander, Tommy Coker and wife Carol of Loganville, GA; grandchildren, Samantha and MyKayla Fender; and great grandson, Riley Fender. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2015, in Macedonia Baptist Church, 1468 Jenkins Valley Rd., Alexander, with Reverend Charles Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Flowers are welcome.
