Alice Hensley Fender

BURNSVILLE – Alice Fender, age 98 of Burnsville passed away Friday, March 17, 2017. Alice was born October 25, 1918 at home on Lickskillet Road, Burnsville to the late Murphy and Bonnie Edwards Hensley. She lived on Lickskillet Road for 97 years, and then for a year and a half with her daughter and son-in-law Geraldine and Mike Whitson. She enjoyed the farm life and gardening, and was a master quilter. Alice enjoyed most of all, her family and loved especially when they visited with her on her front porch. Those times were cherished by all. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Fender who died in 2010, and ten of her siblings. Surviving are her 5 children and their spouses, William Fender and wife Pat, Edd Fender and wife Joanna, Geraldine Whitson and husband Mike, Iva Green and husband Jerry, Faye Maney; 8 grandchildren, Sherry Robinson and husband Alton, Michelle Sigmon and husband Chip, Sean Fender, Brent Fender and wife Michelle, Alicia Shelton and husband Tim, Hannah Gosnell and husband Garland, Neil Maney, Lance Stewart and wife Trina; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mary Tipton and Winnie Stines. A private family service for Alice will be held in the Chapel at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.
