Alice J. Shuford Barrett

WEAVERVILLE – Alice J. Shuford Barrett, age 82, of Weaverville, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of Friday, June 23, 2023.  She was born on February 19, 1941, in Buncombe County to the late Fred Lee and Frances Mack Shuford.  In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by sisters, Carolyn Laws and Glenda Messer; and great-grandchildren, Jeriah and Lucas Ray.

A resident of Buncombe County all of her life, Alice worked for many years at Brentwood Hills Nursing Center.  She was also employed at North Buncombe High School.  Alice was a member of West View Baptist Church of Weaverville.

She is survived by daughters, Debbie Nash (Billie) of Weaverville, and Tammy Ray of Weaverville; sister, Nancy Shepherd; grandchildren, Tony King of Weaverville, Joshua Ray of Mars Hill, and Matthew Nash of Weaverville; and great-granddaughter, Lillian Ray of Mars Hill.

A graveside service will be held at 11a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at West Memorial Park with Reverend Preston Riddle officiating.
