ALICE WITHERRITE ROSE
BLACK MOUNTAIN - Alice Witherrite Rose, age 84, went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, in heaven on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Mrs. Rose was born June 10, 1931, in Burlington, Vermont to the late Glenn and Theresa Wool having six sisters and one brother (all deceased). She loved them and all her nieces and nephews. Alice was the wife of Terrel Witherrite of Imnaha, Oregon, 42 years, a military man and retired as a Command Sgt. Major after 20 years of service in the Army. After he retired he was called to preach. They did missionary work and pastored The Christian Chapel of Asheville, NC, leading people to Jesus, with Alice as his helpmate. She sang and played the autoharp in jails and in churches. Alice traveled with Terrel in a motor home to army camps, trailer parks and low rent housing for 8 years going door to door sharing the gospel. Alice is also predeceased by her 2nd husband of 7 years, Don Rose of Greenville, SC.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Karen Weeks and husband Bob of Black Mountain and Cynthia Souhrada and her husband Richard of Delta Junction, Alaska; grandchildren, Theresa and James Stringer, Terri and Jason Elder, Brad McKay, Jr. and Tiffani Belew; great grandchildren, Anastasia Grace, Gabriel, Griffin and Aneilla; stepson, John Rose and wife Jill and their daughters Bryn and Amanda who also meant a lot to her.
Alice's love was doing for others, encouraging others, praying for others, calling shut-ins, and putting out gospel tracts. She loved to read her Bible and tried to live it. She wants you all to know she will be waiting to see you in Heaven.
Her memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Pastors Jim Moore, Jeff Dowdy and Blanca Miller officiating. Music will be provided by Sylvia and Bruce Arrowood of Black Mountain.
The family will greet friends following her memorial service at the funeral home.
