ASHEVILLE – Arnold Richard “Dicky” Banks, Sr., age 71, of West Asheville, died Wednesday, April 4, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends.
Richard was born November 23, 1946 in Buncombe County where he lived most of his life. Richard graduated from Erwin High School and retired after 37 years of working at BASF. He was very active in his community, helping everyone when needed and always leaving you with a smile. Richard was an active member of Asheville First Church of The Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady M. Banks, Sr. and Gladys Neighbors Banks; wife, Frankie Blankenship Banks; brothers, Grady M. Banks, Jr., Leroy Banks, and Donald Banks; sisters, Margie Ann Banks, Betty Jean Jenkins, and Daisy Lee Coleman.
Surviving are his daughter, Michelle Thompson; sons, Rick Banks and wife Heather, Dana Shelton and wife Theresa; step-daughter, April Michelle Runyon and husband Michael; sisters, Geraldine Smith and Jeanette Shipman; grandchildren, Ashley, Harley, Richard, Kaylee, Trevor, Ayden, Shelby, Alisha, and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Alexys; and many special friends including Todd.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Asheville First Church of The Nazarene. Rev. Andrew Crimmins will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, NC 28787.
