Beatrice June Briggs

WEAVERVILLE - Beatrice June Briggs, age 81, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025, peacefully at her residence. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and cherished memories.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Fred Franklin Briggs; her beloved sons, Keith Briggs (Cecilia), and Kevin Briggs (Melissa); and her treasured grandchildren who affectionately knew her as ‘Granny’, Brittany George (Justin), Kelly Penley (Alex), Jordan Briggs, Emily Briggs, Alex Briggs, Zackery Meadows and Alex Meadows. Her love and wisdom will also live on through her great-grandchildren: Ian, Brayden, Jaylin, Ava, Logan, Mason, Addison, Bo, Zander and Freya. She is survived by her brother, Dennis Gerald Ponder.

She is preceded in death by her father, Earl Homer Ponder & her mother, Della Revis Ponder and her 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

June was a devoted member of Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church in Weaverville, where she found great joy in her faith and fellowship with her church family who she loved very much. She was known for her adventurous spirit, outgoing personality, and deep love for her family and friends. June retired from Buncombe County Schools in 1999 where she worked as a cafeteria manager at North Buncombe High School. June spent many years singing with her brother, Dennis, in The Sacred Tones Trio.

Services to honor and celebrate June's life will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2025, at Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, 290 Sheppard Branch Road, Weaverville, NC 28787 with the Reverends Mike Thomas, Walter Ponder, and Robert Raines officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the church.
