Bethel Louise Ammons, 95, passed from this life unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
Bethel was born November 24, 1926, the daughter of Lewis Oscar and Maude Leigh Presnell Boone of the Grapevine Section of Madison County. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 69 years, Hal Donald Ammons of Weaverville; brothers Bruce Boone, Jack Boone, and Ernest Boone of Marshall; sisters Bertie Sams of Asheville, Beulah Brown of Shelby, Bonnie Gosnell of Marshall, and Birma Sawyer of Swannanoa, and her son Victor Ammons of Weaverville.
She is survived by her brother Wayne Boone of Marshall, three sons- H D Ammons, Jr. and wife Donna of Asheville, Mark Ammons and wife Liz of Floyds Knobs, IN, and Chris Ammons of Marshall. Bethel was blessed with nine grandchildren- Jeannie Shelton, Kallie Zollman and husband Richard of Grantville, GA, Niki Hoyle and husband Jared of Lakeland, FL, Emily Honeycutt of Alexander, Lacey Ammons, Marcello Gelsomini, Lucas Bishop, Katie Ammons, and Josie Ammons. Bethel also has six great-grandchildren- Cody Mundy, Phillip Hoyle, Ava Hoyle, Claire Perry, and Wilson and Tyler Zollman.
Bethel was a longtime member of Weaverville Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who truly loved working and sharing the bounty of her garden, life on the farm, cooking for everyone, sewing and quilting, and being a Granny. Her biscuits will be missed by all. She loved being at home more than anywhere else...she is there now!
A special “Thank You” is extended to the care staff at Mount Moriah Assisted Living: Jennifer, Beth, Melissa, Shara and Sytira. Bethel’s housemates: Ruth, Pam, Vickie, Charlene and Ethel welcomed her into the family and have a place in our hearts also! To all the friends, family, and neighbors and church family…thank you for your calls, cards, visits, prayers, and support.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, January 9, 2022 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Dr. Stuart Lamkin and Rev. Dr. Jim McCoy will officiate. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
