Betty Ann Creasman Ausband

Betty Ann Creasman Ausband, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at The Outer Banks Hospital. Known to many as “Grand Betty,” she was 88 years old.

Born on September 11, 1936, in Swannanoa, NC, Betty lived a life full of love, dedication, and service. She began her career as a technician with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, where she demonstrated remarkable skill and commitment. Her professional journey continued as she became a department head for Hecht's in DC and later a buyer for the iconic Bon Marche’ Department Store in downtown Asheville, NC. Alongside her husband, Betty owned and operated Reticules and Trappings in Atlanta. Her last professional endeavor was in Asheville with Tops for Shoes, where she made lasting connections with colleagues and customers alike.

Betty found immense joy and fulfillment in her family life. She was an extraordinary grandmother, bringing warmth and support to her grandchildren, and she relished every moment spent cheering for the Atlanta Braves or recalling her days playing basketball in high school. Betty and her husband cherished their time at Pine Knoll Shores beach, where they created countless memories with family and friends, as well as their home on Deva Glen Road, in Asheville.

A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville, NC, Betty was active in the choir and generously volunteered at the local Food Bank, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Henry "Hink" Lowrance Ausband; her parents, Nina Adams Creasman and Perry Herman Creasman; and her two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by two stepsons: Henry “Hank” Lowrance Ausband, Jr. and wife Terry of Madison County, along with two children (Vicki Cook), Steven Scott Ausband (Christy) and Christina Lynne Ausband Hinton (Chuck); great-grandchildren, Laurel Christine Hinton, Zachary Charles Hinton, Tyler Chase Hinton, Gavin Tunis Ausband, Ruby Kathryn Ausband; and four step-children, Juliana Morrison, Lauralee Saad, Joshua Meeks, and Natalie Scruggs.

Her second stepson is Dr. Francis Bryant Ausband and wife Emily of Southern Shores. She also leaves behind her step-grandchildren, Thad Yelton Ausband, Joseph Bryant Ausband (Heather), Alexander Reid LeFevre (Hillary); great-grandchildren, Ella Claire Ausband, Henry Drew Ausband, and twins Grant and Reid LeFevre; as well as her nephew, Jeff Webb and wife Suzy, along with other cherished nieces and nephews.

The family appreciates the extraordinary support and care provided to Betty by Duane Jarnecke of Townville, SC, as well as the kindness shown to Betty at Peak Resources and Spring Arbor of the Outer Banks, and The Outer Banks Hospital.
