WEAVERVILLE– Betty Capps, age 83, of Weaverville, died Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Stonecreek Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Capps was born April 5, 1938, in Michigan to the late August and Doris Janssen. She was a salesperson for New York Life in Michigan and moved to Buncombe County after retiring in 2006 to be close to her family. At the age of 72 she worked at Lowe’s as a cashier. She was a funny and articulate lady who loved to find a reason to beep her car horn. Betty loved the color pink, tending to her roses, watching The West Wing, any detective shows, and reading books. She also enjoyed eating out at Bellagio. Betty created and managed The Hamburg Crossing Children’s Christmas Fund which is a program during Christmas that allowed underprivileged children to receive Christmas gifts; she and her neighbors poured their hearts and souls into this program. Betty will be remembered for her kindness, especially during the Christmas Season.
Betty was preceded in death by her son, Steven Capps, who died in 1985.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Meek of Weaverville.
