ARDEN – Betty Jane Wible Brazelle Ruhl, 90, died on Sunday, August 13, 2023.
A native of Asheville, NC, Betty was born November 12, 1932, the daughter of the late Garland C. Wible and Eunice S. Wible. She graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville and UNC Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Betty’s career in commercial art began as a fashion artist for Ivey’s department stores. She retired 36 years later as senior fashion and layout artist for the retailer’s corporate stores.
After retirement, Betty was active in the Charlotte Art League and Charlotte Art Guild and also in printmaking at Central Piedmont Community College. She continued her passion for art in other media, particularly watercolor. Her love of music and literature often inspired her art. She also found inspiration through the strong relationships and deep love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard V. Brazelle; her second husband, Robert C. Ruhl; Her brother, Garland C. Wible, Jr.; a stepson, Mitchell L. Ruhl; and a granddaughter, Rachel C. Gittins.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie G. Brazelle of Asheville, NC; her son, Richard V. Brazelle, Jr. and his wife, Katherine, of Martinsburg, PA; her stepson, Stephen R. Ruhl and his wife, Carol, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca M. Perry and her husband, Rory Geoghegan, of Philadelphia, PA, Stephen R. Brazelle and his wife, Kayla, of Fredericksburg, VA, Anna E. Brazelle of Martinsburg, PA, and Benjamin S. Ruhl and his wife, Laura, of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren, Maggie and Connor Gittins of Damascus, MD, Caroline and Harrison Brazelle of Fredericksburg, VA, and Darcy and Emmy Lou Ruhl of Charlotte, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, NC. The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lewis Memorial Park, 415 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Asheville High School Visual Arts Department, c/o Asheville City Schools Foundation, PO Box 3196, Asheville, NC 28802.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heather Glen at Arden Woods for the attention, care and love they showed Betty for the last four and a half years.
