ASHEVILLE - Betty Ruth Walden Lee passed away peacefully after a brief illness on January 6, 2021.
Betty was the daughter of the late Fonzo and Dorothy Walden. She always had a smile and a kind word and was loved by all. Betty was an active member in her church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Asheville, for most of her life greatly enjoying her time teaching children in Sunday School and acting as librarian in the Christian Science Reading Room. She graduated from Woodfin High School, and then studied at Blanton’s Business School before finishing up at Cecil’s Business College. She then went to work at Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company before moving into radio where she filled numerous roles over many years at WSKY and later WZLS.
Betty will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Zeb Lee.
She is survived by her sons, Brian Lee and Barry Lee; brother, Jack Walden; grandchildren, Olivia Lee, Madeline Lee, Hannah Blankenship and Ben Blankenship; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Lucas Hammond; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Due to the current pandemic restrictions and concerns, a private family graveside service will be held.

Betty was always concerned over the wellbeing of those less advantaged, animals, the environment, and veterans.
