WEAVERVILLE– Betty Gwaltney Redmond, age 97 of Church Street, died Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Mrs. Redmond was born May 28, 1921 in Buncombe County to the late Charles T. and Emma Aiken Gwaltney; she was a resident of Buncombe County all of her life. She went to Brevard College two years and received her teacher’s degree at Appalachian State Teachers College. For the first three years, starting in 1942, she taught school at French Broad Elementary and then Weaverville Primary, where she retired in 1979. A member of Weaverville United Methodist Church, she was active in the Matilda Dryman Circle, the church choir, and served in a number of other capacities. Her husband, Denver Redmond died in 2008.
Surviving are her sons, Kirk Redmond and wife Susan and Tom Redmond; seven grandchildren; along with three great granddaughters.
Mrs. Redmond’s service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Weaverville United Methodist Church. Reverend Deval Mason will officiate. There will be a private burial at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will greet friends following the service on Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church.
