BETTY SUE TIPTON DILLINGHAM
BARNARDSVILLE - Betty Sue Tipton Dillingham, age 78, of Barnardsville died Thursday, January 8, 2015.
Mrs. Dillingham was born April 28, 1936 in Madison County to the late Claude J. and Cara Belle Flynn Tipton. She was a devoted military wife, loving daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. Betty Sue attended Marshall High School, Class of 1954 and was a cheerleader with her life-long best friend Marilyn Ramsey Eastman. She worked at Micro Switch, loved her Atlanta Braves, traveling, reading and enjoyed her garden and bird watching. Mrs. Dillingham was a life-long member of Madison Seminary Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and was very involved in Vacation Bible School with her church friends, Donna Gail Ward, Polly M. Caldwell, Pat Kent McFee and Wanda Edwards. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Jack, Jerry and Stanley Tipton.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Ray E. Dillingham; children, Theresa Dillingham Steingress of Asheville, Billy R. Dillingham of Marshall, Greg E. Dillingham of Barnardsville and Susan Dillingham Goforth and husband Jeff of Marshall; brother, Dale Tipton and sister-in-law Avie; grandchildren, Cara Delaney Goforth, Dalton Reed Goforth, Amanda Dillingham Greene and her husband Jonathan, and Jenna Rae Steingress.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Stanley Peek officiating. A private burial will take place in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
