Betty McElreath Young

WEAVERVILLE – Betty McElreath Young, age 90, of Weaverville, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Young was born July 19, 1926 in Buncombe County where she had lived most of her life. Betty was a wonderful homemaker, enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and taking exceptional care of her entire family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and was like a counselor to many. A graduate of Biltmore High School she was also a former member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a bus captain. She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Maggie Wilson McElreath; husband, Cyril “CA” Young and 11 siblings. Surviving are her daughter, Ingrid Young Jenkins; grandson Michael Jenkins and special family friend Karen Russell Entzi. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Burial will be in Strawbridge Young Cemetery located in Newdale, NC. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
