Beulah Ballard Hemphill

WEAVERVILLE—Beulah Ballard Hemphill, age 96, formerly of the Ox Creek community, died Thursday, January 14, 2010. Mrs. Hemphill was born October 25, 1913, in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late W. Dennis and Minnie Smith Ballard. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Troy Hemphill; daughter, Betty Hemphill; brothers, Clarence, Clyde, Burley, Buren, Willie and Jay Ballard; and sister, Nola Bradley. Surviving are her sisters, Myrtle Roberts and Mae Bradley, both of Weaverville, Elinor Tarvin of Brunswick, Ga.; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hemphill's funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2010, in Salem United Methodist Church, with Rev. Darrel Bowles officiating. Burial will be in Brank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
