WOODFIN—Blanche Hamlin Greene, age 85, of 174 Elkwood Ave., died Sunday, December 30, 2012. Mrs. Greene was born October 28, 1927, in High Point to the late Roy and Nell Wilson Hamlin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J.R., Arnold, Ronnie, and Pete Hamlin. Mrs. Greene grew up in Buncombe County where she attended Woodfin School and never missed a day. In 1947 she married the love of her life, Paul Wesley Greene who passed away in 2012. She graduated from Cecil's Business College and worked at the VA Hospital, was a court reporter during the Korean Conflict, worked at the US Forest Service and the US Aerial Photography Laboratory. In 1975 she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and in 1983 returned to Buncombe County. An active lifelong member of Newbridge Baptist Church, she was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class. She and her husband Paul were very involved in their grandchildren's lives, attending all their activities. They even maintained a part-time residence for approximately 18 years in order to be close to their grandchildren in Idaho. Surviving are her daughter, Karen Thorpe and husband Jim of Twin Falls, Idaho; son, Bruce Greene of Woodfin; sister, Mary Tweed of Woodfin; sister-in-law, Faye Hamlin of Marion; a number of nieces and nephews, including Brenda Warren, who was like a daughter, of Woodfin, and Helen Sonnier of Clarkesville, GA; her special friend, Ruth McElreath; and grandchildren, Adam York and wife Stephanie and Michael York, all of Twin Falls, Erin and Lindsey Greene of Woodfin, who will serve as pallbearers along with Bruce. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013, at Newbridge Baptist Church with Rev. Clark Henderson officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
