ASHEVILLE – Burvalee Anders Allen, age 96, of Asheville, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
Mrs. Allen was born July 16, 1924 in Buncombe County to the late William Orville and Jennie Wallen Anders; she was a resident of Buncombe County all of her life. She and her husband formerly owned and operated EV Allen and Sons Greenhouses that was located in Barnardsville. Mrs. Allen joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1984 after moving to Asheville. She formerly was a member of Barnardsville Baptist. When Millie, the activities director at Baptist Home, asked her what being a Christian meant to her, she replied “It means everything. It is the only thing that is important. Jesus means the difference of where we spend eternity.”
Mrs. Allen was an avid quilter and has made numerous beautiful quilts which she sold or gave away over the years. She lived the past three years in assisted living at WNC Baptist Home where she continued to quilt and enjoy numerous activities, such as reading, listening to music or preaching, watching YouTube videos on quilting, and coloring. She was seldom idle. Burvalee loved her children and family.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernie Allen; sons, Samuel, Charles and Lee Allen; sister, Dorothy Yearly; brothers, Clyde, Harold, and Ed Anders, and Jack Scott.
Surviving are her daughters, Carolyn Childers and husband Kenneth of Greensboro, GA, and Debbie Bradley and husband Richard of Andrews, and Shelia White of Asheville; sons, Edgar Allen and wife Debbie of McCall, ID; and Gary Allen and wife Brenda of Marshall; sisters, Myrtle Gunter and Margaret Cutler; and numerous grand, great and great-great grandchildren.
A private outdoor service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021 under the carport at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverend Allen Rash will officiate. Private burial will be in Whitaker Cemetery, Barnardsville.

Per the NC Governor, masks are required. Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio by tuning into FM 87.7 while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
