C.L. Ray

ASHEVILLE – C. L. Ray, age 76, of Asheville died Saturday, May 27, 2017. Mr. Ray was born April 14, 1941, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He was formerly employed at Three Mountaineers and retired from Wachovia Bank. C.L. was a member of Cedar Hill Freewill Baptist Church in Asheville and loved to hunt and fish. He was the son of the late Hargrove Carter Ray and Ella Mae Webb Ray, also preceded in death by his brother, Buddy Wayne Ray. Surviving are his wife, Betty Higgins Ray; daughter, Kathy Wahler and husband Ed of Fletcher; sister, Carolyn Anderson of Greenville, TN; two grandchildren, Eddie Wahler and Amanda Wahler. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverends Roger Boone and Larry Coates officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
