ASHEVILLE – Calvin Brackett age 79, of Tattle Branch Circle, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Calvin was born April 9, 1939 in the Fletcher area where he worked in the Burt Cantrell Fields, planting and harvesting green beans and potatoes. He ran the Gulf service station in Fletcher for two years and the Quaker Oates Company in Asheville for six years. Calvin retired from Southern Concrete after 38 years of service having won several awards, the greatest being 2nd place in the nation for being a safe driver, out of over 450,926 drivers in 1999. He was the son of the late Earnest and Mildred Britton Brackett. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Albert Brackett; sisters, Helen Hoesktra, Shirley Trexler, and Elizabeth Edwards. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ruth McDonald Brackett; daughters, Linda Wheeler and husband Rocky of Brevard, and Lori Haynes and husband Stan of Weaverville; granddaughter, Amanda Young and husband Kevin, grandson Jacob Haynes all of Weaverville, and grandson Alex Wheeler of Asheville; two great grandchildren and one on the way; sixteen nieces and nephews. Calvin’s memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 in God’s Way Baptist Church, 943 Warren Wilson College Road, Swannanoa, NC 28778. Rev. Joel Burton will officiate. Burial will follow in Sky View Memorial Park 25 Skyview Park Drive, Asheville, NC 28805. The family will receive friends 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Flowers need to be delivered to the church between 11:00 am and 12:00 noon on Thursday. At other times, the family will be at 41 Tattle Branch Circle in Scenic Retirement Community.
