FLETCHER – Carrol Edward Buckner, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Carrol was born August 31, 1939, to the late Will and Ada Buckner in Buncombe County. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Etta Bea Franklin Buckner in 2008, and his beloved daughter Rosetta Lynn Buckner Heylek in 1986. He was also preceded in death by siblings Howard, Luther, Doris, Bonnie, and Betty Jean.

Surviving are his sons Dewayne (Annette) and Randy (Joy); grandchildren Heather, Brad, Ryan (Stacy), and Mackenzie (Rob); great grandchildren Karsen, Alyssa, Norah, and Kohen; sisters, Barbara Wilson (Don), and Helen Jarrett; brothers, Dennis and Gerald; and a host of nieces and nephews.

It was evident early on that Carrol had a mindset for an entrepreneur as he began his own painting company.

Around 1975, he tinkered with the idea of a wood-burning stove to heat his home. Folks thought it was a great idea, and thus “Buck Stove” was born. Throughout his career, he established himself as an icon and pioneer for the solid fuel industry.

Carrol’s interests were boating & fishing, golfing, watching his grandchildren play sports, and spending time with his family at the old home place. His love for his family was deep and second only to his love for God and what he accomplished through Jesus Christ. His believing and positive attitude carried him through the tough times. Many days of his health battle when asked how he was were met with a “thumbs up” or response of, “I’m great!”

We will miss his presence but are thankful for the time we shared with him, and we thank God for the hope of Jesus Christ’ return!

His funeral will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Rev. Junior Holifield will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:45 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at West Memorial Park.
