Charles Arthur "Art" Hawkins

Charles Arthur “Art” Hawkins, age 76, of Weaverville went to be with the Lord Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Art was born December 7, 1948, in Buncombe County to the late Franklin Glenn and Thelma Ledford Hawkins. He was a 1967 graduate of North Buncombe High School and graduated from Mars Hill College with a major in Math. He taught at Mountain Heritage High School and NC School of Science and Math. An entrepreneur for several years, Art owned his own businesses and helped others to fulfill their dreams to own and or sell their businesses. 

Art was a dedicated member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he spent over 50 years worshiping and serving. He greeted everyone with a smile and never met a stranger.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Pat Merrill Hawkins; daughter, Heather Weaver and husband Matthew; three wonderful grandsons, Charlie, Will, and Ben; sisters, Melba Hawkins, Wanda Ingle-Stevens and Glenda Buckner and husband Jerry; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Caleb Poole and Rev. Aubrey Folk officiating and life-long friend Carroll Arrowood speaking. Burial will follow in Mars Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville.
