ASHEVILLE – Charles J. Haney, age 85, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Solace.

Charles was born to the late Commodore Randolph Haney and Elsie Woods Haney. He served in the 92nd Artillery Division in the US Army from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed at Ft. Bragg. After 42 ½ years of service he retired from Ecusta in Brevard. Charles was an avid deer hunter and member of Western Carolina Beagle Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, raising a garden and just being outdoors. He attended Erwin Hills Baptist Church for 20 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Christina Haney, Anna Mae Parris, Kathleen Parris, Trula Aiken and brother, Donald Haney.

Charles is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Doris Jones Haney; daughters, Vicky Haney Michales (John) and Paula Haney Hoyle (Rick); sister, Virginia Stevens; three grandchildren, Jake Michales, Evan Hoyle and Emerson Anne Hoyle; and a special nephew, Wayne Parris.

His family will receive friends 12:00 to 1:30 PM, Sunday, September 3, 2023, at West Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Reverend Allen Rash and Reverend Andy McDevitt will officiate.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Asheville VA Health Care Center, VA Voluntary Services, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.

The family would like to thank the Cardiology Team at the Asheville VA Medical Center, and CarePartners Hospice and Solace Center care teams.
