BARNARDSVILLE – Clarence Hensley, age 86, of Barnardsville, died Saturday, May 1, 2021, peacefully surrounded by his family.
Mr. Hensley was born June 25, 1934 in Buncombe County to the late Zebulon Vance and Ollie McKinney Hensley; he was a resident of Buncombe County all of his life. Clarence served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as a manager from Globe Security Services. Clarence was an avid gardener and loved to grow vegetables for his wife to can.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Norton Rice, and step-daughter, Sandy Watts Pitts.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Peggy Jones Hensley; daughter, Kathy Burleson and husband Kenneth; step daughter, Darlene Dodd and husband Daryl; son, Chris Hensley and wife Sheri; step-son, Wayne Watts and wife Kathy; sister, Gladys Shelton and husband Walter; nine grandchildren, Alisha, Amy, Kristy, Scotty, Jason, Tiffany, Derek, Dana and Brandy; nine great grandchildren; and three, great-great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Reverends LaMarr Hyatt and Will Edmonds will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the funeral home.
Per the NC Governor, masks are required inside the building.
Those who choose, may listen to the service on their car radio by tuning into FM 87.7, while in the parking lot of the funeral home.
