ASHEVILLE - Col. Anthony Henry Richard, Jr. passed from this life on Sunday, September 28, 2014. He was the son of the late Anthony Henry Richard and Dorcianne Richard and spent his early years in Lafayette, Louisiana.
After attending LSU, Henry graduated from the United States Military Academy in June of 1943. On the day of his graduation, Henry received his diploma, his flying wings, and married his West Point sweetheart, Beverly Holleman of Larchmont, New York. He went on to a 30 year career in the United States Air Force where he and Beverly served duty in the United States and abroad.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly and their young son, Anthony Henry Richard III, affectionately known as "Chip".
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie Sprinkle Richard of Asheville; his three children, Steve Richard and wife Louise of Atlanta, GA; Greg Richard and wife Nita of Deer, Arkansas, and Suzanne Cannon and husband Dr. Jim of Gainesville, GA; grandsons, Alex Cannon of New York City and David Richard of Deer, Arkansas. Also surviving are Jeannie's children, Scott and Julia Claiborne.
A private family service will be held at a later date at The United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
