REV. CONLEY A. HYER, SR.
WEAVERVILLE - Rev. Conley A. Hyer, Sr., age 92, of 91 Lakeshore Drive, died Thursday, May 15, 2014.
Conley was born July 24, 1921 in Buncombe County where he had lived all his life. He was a former Little League Baseball coach of the Lions, a Troop 15 Boy Scout Leader, a Methodist Lay speaker and ordained Minister who pastored at Clark's Chapel UMC and South Fork Independent Methodist Church. Rev. Hyer was self-employed in floor covering and served in the US Army Military Police and Infantry during World War II. He was the son of the late William Leslie Hyer, Sr. and Cleo E. Gentry Hyer and husband of the late Ada Lucille Herron Hyer who died in 2011. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Violet Hyer, Helen Dockery, Dorothy Williams, Ann DeHart, and Mary McCurry; and brothers, Bill, Edwin, Paul, Glenn, and Raymond Hyer.
Surviving are his sons, Phil Hyer and wife Sharon of Weaverville, Tim Hyer and wife Aundria of Raleigh, and Conley Hyer, Jr. of Weaverville; granddaughters, Brandi Mullinax and husband Darren, Amber Teves and husband Tim, Caycee Hyer; step grandson, Shane Herren; great grandchildren, Brittany, Gage, Meghan, and Noa.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Clark Henderson, Daniel Dockery, and Bill Dockery officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park; the Weaverville Police Dept. will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
