WEAVERVILLE—Helen "Darlene" Huffaker died peacefully at home on July 14, 2012. She was born in Brush, Colorado, on Feb. 17, 1928, the daughter of Rex S. Henderson and Clara M. Strock.
She traveled the country, raising her family in Idaho, Colorado, California, South Dakota, Michigan and Texas before settling down in Georgia. Summers were spent in a station wagon.
She and Bob then moved to New York State and then on August 1, 1987, they moved to Weaverville, North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Robert Huffaker; her children: Michael and wife Tee, John and wife Pattie, Tom and wife Susan, Molly and husband Matthew Crenshaw; and grandchildren: Diana, Daniel and Benjamin; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and special friend Barb Mars.
There will be a gathering of family and friends in Darlene's garden on Sunday, August 5, from 12:00 - 3:00 pm.
Because of her love of teaching children to read, we ask that any memorial donations be made to the Weaverville Public Library, P.O. Box 663, Weaverville, North Carolina 28787.
