JULY 11, 1941 - OCTOBER 28, 2015 BARNARDSVILLE - Darrell Barry, Barnardsville, NC, died on October 28, 2015, after a long illness that he refused to let smother his proud Navy Veteran spirit; he taught himself how to play the guitar; turned his computer into a photo art shop; wrote a blog "Common Non-Sense"; and taught himself how to become an amazing watercolorist. His training at the Minnesota Technical Institute in Duluth, MN, led him to work in New York City as an architectural detailer and a professional photographer before moving to NC to work at Progressive Energy; operate his own Barry Glass & Mirror in Asheville; drive big rigs from coast to coast, and locally for Ingles. Born in Huron, SD, Darrell was raised in Duluth, MN, by parents Hazel and James "Gordy" Barry (both deceased) with his sister Sharron Carl, widow of Dave Carl. Also surviving along with his sister, Sharron is his wife of 48 years, Freda Elizabeth Barry. An informal Remembrance Service with Pastor David Crowder will be held at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 2:30pm. Darrell's wife, Freda, requests in lieu of flowers, donations/tributes go to the Charles George VA HBPC, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Bldg. 15, Asheville, NC 28805, in gratitude for their dedicated, compassionate care and support. For those who desire, condolences may be offered to the family under Darrell's obituary at www.WestFamilyFuneralServices.com.
