BARNARDSVILLE – David Gooding, age 54, of Barnardsville, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 27, 2021 after a six-month battle with lung cancer. He joined his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, in the eternal home that he longed for.
David was born at the Naval Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia and was raised in Pamlico County, NC. He spent the last eleven years in the Barnardsville community where he was dearly loved by friends, neighbors, and church family.
He is preceded in death by his father, William B. Gooding, Sr.; granddad, Clifford Gregory; maternal grandparents, William B. and Pearl Gooding; and maternal great grandmother, Catherine Goers.
David is survived by his wife, Doris Dillingham Gooding; three daughters, Ava Glenn, Andria Gooding and Elana Gooding; stepson, Tyler Lewis; his mother, Elizabeth (Libby) Gooding of Pamlico County, NC; mother-in-law, Myrtle Dillingham; brothers, William “Bill” Gooding and wife Victoria of Hailey Idaho, and Scott Gooding and Daphne Walker of Pamlico County, NC; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins he deeply loved.
David was a member of Carson’s Chapel Baptist Church where he was very active doing the Lord’s work. You could see his love and service to his Savior in the work he did in the church and throughout the community. David was very passionate about serving the Lord. He was quick to tell people about how knowing Jesus had changed his life and could change theirs. David was always ready to pray for and with anyone no matter who or where they were. His greatest wish was to see his family and friends accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. David took great pleasure in donating his talents to help churches and people in need. By trade he was a NC State Board Licensed Contractor who did impeccable work and also received several Griffin Awards from the Historic Preservation Society of Asheville for his accomplishments as a master craftsman of plaster restoration and a finish carpenter. He had a passion for creating beauty and restoring splendor to houses.
David will continue to be remembered by those who loved and respected him as a man of many gifts, tremendous physical strength, and a tender heart. Words can not express the joy he brought and love he showed to those in his life nor how much he means to those who knew him.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2021 in Carson’s Chapel Baptist Church, Barnardsville. Reverends David Crowder, Ben Wilkerson, and Will Edmonds will officiate. Burial will follow in Thomas F. Dillingham Cemetery, Barnardsville.
The family will receive 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2021 in West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
