David W. Webb

MARSHALL – David W. Webb, age 85, of Marshall died Thursday, June 1, 2023.

David was born December 4, 1937, to the late Marston Roger Webb and Anita Giarracco Webb. His father was employed in the international division of the Dupont Corporation and the family was located in Mexico City for a portion of David’s youth. After graduating from boarding school at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut, he attended and graduated with honors from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana with a degree in civil engineering.  He worked in both Charlotte and Shelby and eventually settled in Asheville with the NCDOT, from which he retired.  David was instrumental in designing and implementing many of the road projects in the Asheville area including the Beaucatcher Cut.

He lived in Leicester a number of years before moving to Marshall about 15 years ago. He was member of Weaverville United Methodist Church. David was a model train enthusiast.

He survived by his wife, Patricia Ballard Webb; sister, Susan Williams and husband Eddie of Charlotte; niece, Carla Jung and husband Christoph with sons Jonathan and Joshua of Switzerland; brothers-in-law, Dave Ballard and wife Phyllis and Carl Ballard and wife Betty; nieces, Ashley Ballard Spagnuolo (Joe) and Christine Ballard Capps (Wally); nephews, Brian Ballard (Patricia) and Jeremy Ballard (Anita) and his standard poodles, Hannah & Bella.

His funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Rob Blackburn will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville.

The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at West Funeral Home.
