Donnie Richard Harris

Donnie Richard Harris, age 63, of Mars Hill died Monday, September 23, 2024.

He was born January 1, 1961, in Guilford County. Donnie was with the Department of Corrections for 30 years in NC. Most of his career was in Marion but recently he was at Craggy. He was a Staff Sergeant in the National Guard for 27 years and served four combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Louise and Dennis Pennix and his father Obie Harris, Sr.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Susan Cheek Harris; sister, Robin Sheehan and husband Thomas; brother, Obie Harris, Jr. (Tracey); stepdaughter, Stephanie Rice and husband Darwin Javier Milla; granddaughter, Camila; nephews, Jack Sheehan and Dalton Harris; and special friend, Bob Benefield.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
