ASHEVILLE—Dorcas Anders Mabrey, 102, died peacefully Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Western North Carolina Baptist Home after a short illness.
Mrs. Mabrey was born January 9, 1909, in Barnardsville and was a daughter of Job Franklin Anders and Mary Elizabeth Brown, residents in Barnardsville from the early 1900s. While at a summer job at the S & W Cafeteria in 1931, she met and later married her husband. They moved to Philadelphia and then to the New York area until 1951 when they moved to New Jersey and then back to Buncombe County in 1996 to be close to her daughter Dorothy and her family. She grew up in Barnardsville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George R. Mabrey who died in 1974; brother, W. Ernest Anders; and sisters, Margaret Seaborn and Mattie Buckner.
Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Embler and husband Bill of Candler; grandchildren, Elaine M. Embler, and W. Douglas Embler and wife Tina, all of Asheville; and great grandchild, Hunter Douglas Embler, age 9.
Her burial will be private.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
