Doris Ilena Deaver Williams

Doris Ilena Deaver Williams, age 89, of Weaverville, NC, passed away on August 17, 2024, at Solace Hospice in Asheville. Doris was born in Madison County and she lived most of her life in Weaverville.

Doris is survived by grandchildren, Matthew Bailey (McKenzie) and Kaycee Bailey (JP); great-grandchildren, Sienna, Tyler, Caleb, and Adalyn Fate Bailey; daughter-in-law Roxanne Dempsey; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Burgin and Myrtle Deaver; her husband of 70 years, Fate Ballard Williams; son, Homer Dean Williams; and daughter Shirley Diann Williams.

Doris and Fate built their home and raised their family in Buncombe County. She worked as an accountant, eventually starting her own business. A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and active in the Optimist Club, she was quick to lend a hand to family and friends. An avid reader, artist, and seamstress, she quickly mastered any craft or art form she started.

Doris was well-loved by her family and was given different nicknames along the way, but she really cherished “Ingy,” her grandmother moniker.

Doris’ funeral service will be held in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Avenue, Weaverville, NC at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 29. Rev. Keith Watkins will officiate. Burial will follow at West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville, NC. The family will receive friends in the State Room at West Funeral Home on the evening of Wednesday, August 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank all the family members, friends, and neighbors who helped Doris and Fate during their last few years. A special thanks to nieces Penny Freeman and Linda Darlene Hall for their many hours of steadfast support in so many ways for Doris and Fate.
