DOROTHY JONES COOK ASHEVILLE - Dorothy Jones Cook, age 83, of 101 North Ridge Drive, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Dorothy was born October 5, 1930 in Buncombe County where she had lived most of her life. In high school she was a star basketball player. She was an artist and owner of Mountain Craftique. Dorothy loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, loved music and had a wonderful sense of humor. She also loved to travel and always had "her ticket ready." She was a daughter of the late Sam Q. and Ruth Burnette Jones. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Glenn Cook, Sr.; daughters, Cindy Cook and husband Steve of Granbury, TX, and Kim Cook and husband Dan Stuchenschneider of Denver, CO; son, Glenn Cook, Jr. of Decatur, GA; sisters, Sammy Cabe, Shelby Shelton, Jane Higgins and husband Phil, and Pat Burnette, all of Weaverville; grandchildren, Sam, Misty, and David Cook; great grandchildren, Colt and Rody Rhodes; and beloved dog, Sophie. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Piney Mountain Baptist Church, Weaverville, with Rev. Steve Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Piney Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where her body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
