WEAVERVILLE—Dorothy Parker Sawyer, age 82, of Weaverville, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.
Mrs. Sawyer was born June 30, 1930, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She worked many years as manager of the Army Store in Weaverville. Dorothy was of the Christian faith, formerly attending the Methodist church. She took great pride in her flowers and always loved working outdoors and gardening. She was a daughter of the late Robert Carl and Lucille Wallace Parker, and wife of the late Olen Ernest Sawyer who died in 1987. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Irene Bowles and Helen Rice, and brothers, Howard and Robert Carl Parker, Jr.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley Franklin and husband Stevie Joe, and son, Olen Sawyer, all of Weaverville; grandchildren, Shannon Franklin, Steven Franklin and wife Lori, Erin Whitson and husband Ryan, Tyler Sawyer; and ten great grandchildren.
Her graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. H.L. Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
