Dwight Conrad Sherrill

WEAVERVILLE– Dwight “Rabbitt” Conrad Sherrill, of Weaverville, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018. Dwight was born May 4, 1932 in Gaston County to the late Theresa Throneburg Sherrill and George William Sherrill; he was a resident of Weaverville since 1979. A veteran of the Korean War (1950 - 1954), he was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army Airborne. A graduate of Western Carolina University with B.S. and M.A. degrees, Dwight taught school in Haywood County, Greenville SC, and Asheville City Schools. He retired as an insurance adjuster. Dwight enjoyed golf, sports, and cooking. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Jane Williams, and husband, Albert and a brother, Wayne Sherrill. Surviving are his life-long companion, Dorothea “Dottie” Sherrill, of the home; daughters, Cynthia Lynne Sherrill of Weaverville, and Leslie Sherrill Davis of Jackson, TN; sisters, Eloise Setzer and husband, Joe, Myra Hudson and husband, Harry, Martha Price and, Hope Kizer and husband, Eddie; brothers, Kohn Sherrill and wife, Bobbie, Dennis Sherrill and wife, Ann; grandchildren, Jason Wyatt, Brad Hughes, Adrienne Davis Hanocque, and Brianna Hughes Blevins; great grandchildren, Ciara and Jacob Wyatt, and Camaron Blevins; very special friend, Ellen Goodell. His service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Dr. Roger Weisner will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the funeral home.
