WEAVERVILLE—Edd Elkins, 79, received everlasting life at his home Tuesday morning, December 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.
Edd was born in Yancey County to the late Garrett and Azelia Wallace Elkins. He was a resident of Weaverville where he and his wife owned Elkins Antiques for 40 years. He was also the owner of Elkins & Son Construction. He was a veteran of the US Army. Edd was a member of Hazel Green Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville. He loved his family deeply. Edd loved meeting people and sharing stories. He always wore a smile and gave unconditionally to others.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Edith Cole and Madge Chambers.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 57 years, Peggy Banks Elkins; sons, Mike and wife Judy, Mark and wife Lisa, John and wife Tammy, Jay and wife Heather, Ray and wife Lisa; and daughters, Ruth Evans and husband Phil, Elizabeth Elkins and her fiance. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, and nephews, Sammy and Leonard Cole.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Mark Elkins officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
