WEAVERVILLE– Eddie Belton Hendrix, age 83, of Weaverville died Thursday, May 17, 2018.
Eddie was born August 14, 1934 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. A former deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department from 1973 to 2006, he retired as a transportation officer. He was a member of Vance Masonic Lodge # 293 A.F. & A.M. Eddie was a very personable individual who loved serving his community and people; he also loved his children and grandchildren. He was son of the late Frank Hendricks and Hazel Mason Hendricks Scarborough, his grandson; Justin Hendrix also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Joanne Jones Hendrix; sons, Eddie Van Hendrix of Gold Hill and Rodney Hendrix of Weaverville; granddaughter, Heather Hendrix of Weaverville; great granddaughter, Shyanne Hatley; niece, Teri McKay Lankford and his dog, Peppy.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Reverend Steve Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Piney Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday prior to the funeral.
