WEAVERVILLE—Edith Brown Ball, age 95, of Weaverville, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. "Granny," as everyone knew her, was born October 17, 1915, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She formerly worked at the Fireplace Restaurant and Connie Fashions. She was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Lattie and Ellen Payne Brown. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ball, Sr., who died in 1966; daughter, Deborah Milner; grandson, Jeff Harrison; and eight brothers and sisters. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Burgess and Jane Harrison; sons, Ralph Ball, Jr., and Jim Ball; brother, Obie Brown; her grandchildren, Chris and Jamie Burgess, Vance and Gretchen Ball, Lee Carlisle, Amy Sparks, Sandra Hunnicutt, and Amber Cox; nine great grandchildren with two more arriving this fall. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2011, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Michael Cox officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Thursday prior to the service. Memorials may be made to ABCCM, 30 Cumberland Ave., Asheville, NC 28801, or to one's animal charity of choice in honor of Granny's daughter Deborah.
