ASHEVILLE—Edna Ferguson Harker, age 86, of 22 Briarwood Rd., died Monday, January 7, 2013. She had resided the past four years with her son in Boone. Mrs. Harker was born September 24, 1926, in Haywood County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She loved birds, flowers, and being a great wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine Muse Ferguson; husband, Edgar Simon Harker who died in 2007; sisters, Ruby Garner, Claudine Greene, and Bonnie Hanson; brothers, Mike, Ralph, and Danny Ferguson. Surviving are her son, Douglas Harker and companion Penny Abe of Boone; daughter, Kim Harker and husband Tom Bradberry of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; sisters, Mary Keener and Judy Shirley; brothers, Gerald Ferguson, Terry Ferguson, James Ferguson, and Eugene Ferguson, all of Waynesville; granddaughter, Holly Harker; and grandsons, August Harker and William Harker. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with Rev. Christopher Webb officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
