WEAVERVILLE – Edward Lawrence Duncan of Weaverville, NC passed away on December 4th, 2021, in York, PA while visiting his sons over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Ed was born April 18, 1945, in Cedar Grove, WV. One of four brothers and the son of educators Kathryn Lawrence Duncan (d.1985) and James Lewis Duncan (d.2006), Ed was raised in his native Kanawha River Valley, graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1963 and earned his Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University Institute of Technology in 1968.
Ed began a lifelong career with BASF Corporation in Galveston, TX in 1970 that would take him to Williamsburg, VA, Charlotte, NC and eventually to Asheville, NC where he retired from (then) Colbond in 2001. A Weaverville resident since 1995, he cultivated longtime friendships and a love of golf at Reems Creek Golf Club. Ed is fondly remembered for his sense of humor, gregarious nature and gift for working with his hands. Neighbors and family recall his quick wit and willingness to assist with home repair projects large and small.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Patricia Mauney Duncan of Weaverville, NC. Married in 1999, Ed and Pat together discovered a love of travel that included Alaska, Austria and Switzerland. But their greatest joy was their large, blended family that included 7 children, 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Ed leaves behind sons Charles Lewis Duncan (Jennifer), Clark Stewart Duncan (Sumner) and Daniel Edward Duncan (Ann), and grandchildren Elspeth Duncan, Sam Duncan, Noah Duncan and Kay Duncan.
