WEAVERVILLE / SWANNANOA – Edward McDevitt, 81, of Weaverville, formerly of Swannanoa, died Monday, November 2, 2020, at Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. McDevitt was born June 13, 1939 in Madison County, in the Walnut community, to the late Shuford and Cindy Chandler McDevitt.
Edward was employed for 37 years at Beacon Manufacturing. He attended the Salvation Army Church in Asheville and volunteered at the Salvation Army as well as the Asheville Police Department. He enjoyed Bluegrass music, gardening, carpentry, and watching sports. Edward never met a stranger, no matter where he went.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sarah Rector McDevitt; his daughters, Annette Buckner and husband Ken, and Brenda Graham and husband Harry; his beloved grandson, Jay Graham; a brother, Elmer McDevitt; a sister, Verna Mae Cutshall; and many special nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all the friends he made at Emerald Ridge, they have become like members of the family. A special thank you for the care provided by Barbara Kent.
His graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville.
