Edwin Ray McLean

WASHINGTON DC/WEAVERVILLE– Edwin Ray McLean, age 84, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in Washington DC. Ray was born May 14, 1933 in Buncombe County to the late Suzanna and Alison McLean. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation, Ray joined the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his service, he lived in many cities before settling down in Washington DC. He worked for many years at the Department of Agriculture, from which he retired. Ray was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC for many decades and often dedicated his time to helping others and enjoyed giving tours of the National Cathedral. In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Roberts of Weaverville. Surviving are his sister, Betty M. Arrowood of Weaverville; nieces, Debbie Desloge of Bolivia, NC and Karen Amrhein of Sherrills Ford, NC. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in West Memorial Park.
