WEAVERVILLE—Eleanor Caronia Stivison, age 87, of Weaverville died Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
Mrs. Stivison was born July 21, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She had been a resident of Weaverville since 1980. She earned a B.A. at Hofstra University and an M.A. at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz. She was a schoolteacher in Uniondale, N.Y., for 23 years. Eleanor was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Mars Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Mary Lamana Caronia; and daughter, Kathleen Ann Gustafson.
Surviving are her son, Douglas Stivison and wife Heather of Upper Montclair, N.J.; brother, Victor Caronia; grandchildren, Megan Louise of Chapel Hill and Elizabeth Anne of Manhattan, N.Y.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit with Father David McNair officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
